We in the Thalassian Legion strive to foster a reasonably safe and engaging environment for everyone to be themselves and to tell the stories they want to tell. Any behavior that is counterproductive to that end is frowned upon. As such, our Code of Conduct shares a recurring theme:
Don’t be a jerk.
If what you’re doing makes you wonder “Am I being a jerk?” you are probably in violation of these rules and should stop and reevaluate your conduct and course of action.
- Consent is King: This is our foremost rule in the Thalassian Legion, and a law of roleplay in general no matter where you go. You are not just writing your own story; you’re co-writing with other human beings to tell a story that furthers not only your character’s growth and story but theirs, as well. Therefore, interactions (especially romantic, sexual, and violent ones) you have in roleplay must be consented upon by the other parties involved. We aren’t going to try to put rules on player’s private interactions; you can (E)RP with whoever you want, so long as it’s with another adult (both IC and OOC). Just ensure beforehand OOCly that the player is comfortable with and allowing of that flirt you wanna do, or losing that arm you wanna chop off, or letting you join in that RP they’re already doing with someone else.
- Ignoring someone’s explicit no or thinly-veiled discomfort will result in immediate removal from the guild.
- IC does not equal OOC: The Golden Rule of roleplay: you are not your character, and the other characters around you aren’t their players (or, at least, they shouldn’t be). As a member of the Thalassian Legion, you will be expected to remember this. Disagreements between your character and another character should not become a problem between you and the other player. If an issue does arise between you and another player, or multiple players, we would prefer you attempt to handle it directly and privately between yourselves. Only if that is not possible should you take screenshots and bring it to an officer.
- Consistently causing issues or breaking this boundary can lead you your removal from the guild.
- Be Respectful:
- No Hate Speech: What is Hate Speech? Any communication—be it speech, writing, or behavior—that attacks, degrades, or incites hatred against an individual or group based on characteristics like one’s race, religion, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, or disability.
- Anyone found demonstrating Hate Speech will not only be removed from the guild, but receive a DNI (Do Not Interact). Bigorty and prejudice is not welcome here.
- Maintain the Escapism:
- 18+ Only: We as a guild touch upon mature and at times dark subject matter, as well as maintain an adullt community space. Therefore, you must be 18 years or older to be in the guild.
- If you are found to be a minor, you will be removed. This is a group of adults that are expecting to interact with other adults; we are not a safe space for minors.
- IC Character Limit: Members of the Thalassian Legion may have a total of up to four IC characters among the guild’s ranks.
It’s important to note that any disciplinary actions we take are typically voted on among the officers. The only exceptions are the most egregious circumstances, such as doxxing, pedophilia, threats, etc. The officer publicly taking the action is not necessarily the one that wants to do it, nor are they necessarily the officer that chose to take the action. Most often we select the best officer to take the needed action for the given situation.
Roleplay Etiquette
Roleplay Etiquette is different from our Code of Conduct. These things are not necessarily rules, but they are seen as proper, and going astray from them is often frowned upon by the wider community and considered “cringe”.
The following are various things that are considered against etiquette:
- God Modding:
- Meta Gaming:
- Mary Sues:
- Self-inserts:
- One-liners:
- Text-posting:
That said, god modding, meta gaming, mary sues, and self-inserts are not welcome in the Thalassian Legion. If an investigation is started and you are found guilty of one of these, you will be given one warning (depending on the severity). After this, if you do not demonstrate willful change, you will be removed from the guild and face a DNI (Do Not Interact).
- No politics. No Religion. Maintain escapism: Let’s be honest, we all RP to have some form of escapism from the real world. No matter what “side” you are on, no matter what religion you believe or dislike, keep it out of our discord. Obviously, if you happen to meet someone in the group that likes to discuss these topics, you are more than welcome to do so. Privately.
- Be Respectful: Please show respect to one another so we might continue to make this place a true haven that we have strived so hard for it to be. Be sure to reach out to others when coming upon rp that does not concern you. Ask for permission to join so they can either fill you in on the goal or deny you so we are not stepping on anyone’s toes for any goals they may have in the works.
